One photo pass started it all.

What began as a simple request to photograph a live show grew into years of managing contributors accreditation requests. accred is the platform I wish I'd had from the beginning.

Hi, I’m Brenton.

For over a decade, I’ve run Australian Music Scene, a music publication dedicated to supporting and showcasing artists across Australia.

It all started with a single request. A photographer asked me for a photo pass to Hermitude at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. Shout out to @will.hypothetical (pictured in the header 🤴🏻)

At the time, I didn't even know what a photo pass was. He explained that he'd take photos of the show and I could publish them on the website. I was immediately intrigued.

I started reaching out to publicists, stumbling through wrong contacts until I finally got it right. To my surprise, they granted us a pass. That first show sparked an idea. What if more contributors could attend gigs and help bring live music to life for our readers?

Before I knew it, I was managing 80 contributors across Australia. The growth was exciting, but the admin quickly became overwhelming. Managing contributor requests, finding the right publicists, following up on applications and chasing coverage became a full-time job.

And I knew I wasn't the only one dealing with it.

On the other side of every request was a publicist or event organiser managing their own inbox, often dealing with hundreds of emails from media outlets, photographers and reviewers.

There had to be a better way for everyone.

That's how accred was born.

Today, accred brings event organisers, publicists, media outlets and contributors together in one place. From creating events and managing accreditation requests to notifying applicants, coordinating door lists and collecting post-event coverage, the goal is to make the entire process simpler for everyone involved.

But accred isn't just about making admin easier.

It's about making sure valuable media passes are used, artists receive the coverage they deserve and the people working behind the scenes have more time to focus on what matters.

I know how difficult it can be to run a small business in the music industry. I've spent years running Australian Music Scene alongside a full-time job, investing my own time and money into something I believe in.

I also know that many publicists and PR companies are one or two people doing the work of an entire team. You're juggling artists, tours, media requests, deadlines and everything in between, often with very limited budgets.

The last thing I want is for accred to become another expense that makes your job harder.

So if you're a small publicist or PR team and you think accred could help, but the cost is out of reach, please reach out to me. There are always options and I'd much rather have a conversation and find something that works than have you miss out on a tool that could genuinely make your life easier.

I want accred to be something the industry genuinely benefits from, whether you're a major promoter, an independent publicist, a small music publication or a photographer applying for your very first show.

Got questions, feedback or ideas? Please get in touch. I'm always happy to have a chat and I'm committed to making accred better for everyone who uses it.

Hope to talk soon.
